Is this Discord bot safe? How to check a bot before you add it

Title card for the guide on checking whether a Discord bot is safe to add

Adding a bot gives a program access to your server. Most bots are fine, but it is worth five minutes of checking, especially for a security bot that asks for strong permissions.

1. Read the permissions it asks for

The invite screen lists every permission. Ask whether each makes sense for the features. A music bot does not need to ban members. A security bot that restores channels and removes attackers does need strong permissions, and a good one explains why. Korzax asks for Administrator so Anti-Nuke can undo what an attacker changed.

2. Know what the sign-in shares

Dashboards usually use Discord login. Look at the scopes requested. Korzax's dashboard asks for your identity and your server list, nothing more, and does not post on your behalf. If a bot asks for scopes that read your messages or email without a clear reason, stop.

3. Read the privacy policy and terms

A trustworthy bot publishes them. Look for what is collected, why, how long it is kept and how to ask for deletion. Korzax's are on the Privacy Policy and Terms of Service pages.

4. Check who is behind it and how to reach them

  • Is there a named developer or team?
  • Is there a support server where questions get answered?
  • Is there public documentation?

5. Limit what a bot can do

  • Put the bot's role only as high as it needs to be. It can act only on roles below its own.
  • Use Discord's audit log to see what the bot does.
  • Remove permissions it does not use, if the bot still works without them.

6. Know how to remove it

Kicking the bot from your server stops it immediately. For a bot with a dashboard, you can also remove its authorization in your Discord account settings under Authorized Apps.

Be cautious of bots that ask for your token or password, or that tell you to paste code into your browser. A real bot never needs either.

Putting it together

Combine this with the buyer's guide and the reliability checklist. If a bot passes all three, you can add it with much more confidence.
