What is a Discord anti-nuke bot and how does it work?

Title card for the explainer on how a Discord anti-nuke bot works

An anti-nuke bot protects your server from destructive actions taken by people who already have permissions. That makes it different from a moderation bot, which mostly reacts to what members say.

What counts as a nuke

A nuke is any fast, damaging change to the structure of a server. The usual ones are:

  • mass bans, kicks or prunes of members;
  • deleting or reshaping channels and roles;
  • creating many channels, roles or webhooks;
  • adding an unknown bot that then does the damage;
  • changing server settings, emoji or stickers in bulk.

How the bot notices

Discord records who performed each action in the audit log and sends the bot events as they happen. The bot matches an action to a rule you enabled, checks whether the person is allowed to do it, and responds if they are not.

Whitelists decide who is trusted

Your own admins sometimes need to delete a channel or ban a spammer. A whitelist lists the people the bot should leave alone. Keep it short: every name on it is someone who can still wreck the server if their account is compromised.

The punishment and the recovery

When a rule is triggered by someone outside the whitelist, the bot applies the punishment you chose, such as a ban, kick or timeout. Good anti-nuke tools also help you put things back. Korzax keeps role and channel backups so that what was removed can be restored.

What to look for when choosing one

  • Per-event settings, so you can treat a bot being added differently from a ban.
  • A whitelist you control.
  • A way to recover deleted channels and roles.
  • A dashboard, so settings are visible and changeable without memorising commands.
  • Clear documentation about the permissions it needs and why.

Setting it up with Korzax

In the dashboard, open Anti-Nuke, switch it on, choose a punishment for each event, add the people you trust to the whitelist, and save. The step-by-step page is Anti-Nuke setup. If you are still deciding whether you need one, start with the full protection checklist.
